“Minny” Chocolate Pies {Oscar Party Dessert Idea Inspired by The Help} + Free Printables

February 23, 2012

I am so excited to share with you this Oscar Party Dessert Idea inspired by The Help because The Help is not only one of my favorite Oscar nominations, but it has made my “Alltime Favorite Movie List!” There are no words for the inspiration and determination I drew from this movie.  AND I read the book before I saw the movie and still loved it!  How often does that happen?!!

If you have seen the movie, you know that Minny’s Chocolate Pie is a town favorite and plays a significant role in the film.  There are some other things associated with Minny’s Chocolate Pie, but I won’t tell here. I don’t want to be a spoiler for those who haven’t seen this incredible film!  So I thought it would be fun to do a spin on Minny’s Chocolate Pie, and make “Minny” Chocolate Pies.

These “Minny” pies are baked in martini glasses I had laying around.  They were just the size I wanted the pies, so I went for it eventhough I was a little nervous they might melt. I didn’t have to call the fire department,   so that was a success.  You can bake these in small pie pans or small mason jars instead. How “Minny” you want to go is up to you!

I think the homemade whipped cream is a must on these.  It is just so much better than what you can find in a can!  The pie filling will come out brown on the top and less brown in the middle.  Don’t be alarmed.  That is how they are supposed to be.  The filling will remind you of the color and consistency of the filling in pecan pie.

You can make your own crust, but I opted for the easy way out and bought my crust in the frozen section at Trader Joe’s.  The consistency and texture of it turned out well!

To make the “Minny” Chocolate Pies, first things first … mold your crust to your jar of choice.

Mix the filling!

Bake …

Whip the whipping cream, top your pies, and serve!

To display the “Minny” Chocolate Pies, I went with a black and white color scheme to pay homage to the black and white films of the past.  I threw in the gold to mimic the Oscar award (aka “Little Man”).

I’ll leave you with some printables to make these pie toppers and other goodies!
